Therapeutic Approaches

Our work together will be guided by your goals and preferences joined by my clinical training, which includes the following therapeutic approaches:

Narrative Therapy is a respectful, non-blaming approach to counseling that centers people as the experts in their own lives and views problems as separate from people. It assumes people have many skills, competencies, beliefs, values, commitments and abilities that will assist them to reduce the influence of problems in their lives.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can help you to uncover self-limiting beliefs and thought patterns and work to change them.

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is specifically designed to assist children and adolescents in processing trauma and limiting beliefs stemming from the traumatic event.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) can assist in developing and supporting a positive relationship and connection between the mind and body.

Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) can help you to develop understanding about different emotional states, how they impact your relationships with others, and with awareness and acceptance, to develop new ways of managing them.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) can help identify triggers, address unhelpful thinking and potentially harmful behavior patterns and work on emotion regulation, mindfulness and interpersonal skills to enhance personal empowerment and efficacy.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a counseling method that helps people resolve ambivalent feelings and insecurities to find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior. It is a practical, empathetic, and short-term process that takes into consideration how difficult it is to make life changes.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy concentrates on finding solutions in the present time and exploring one’s hope for the future to find quicker resolution of one’s problems. This method takes the approach that you know what you need to do to improve your own life and with the appropriate coaching and questioning, you are capable of finding the best solutions.

Play Therapy is a psychotherapeutic approach primarily used to help children ages 3 to 12 explore their lives and freely express thoughts and emotions through play. The goal is to help children learn to express themselves in healthier ways, become more respectful and empathetic, and discover new and more positive ways to solve problems.
